About Us
Founded in 1934, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges® has been honored to recognize outstanding scholastic
achievement regardless of financial circumstance. We thank the college administrators across the country for their commitment to this cause and all that they do to support our future leaders. Through our years of serving higher education, Who’s Who Among Students has become one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation, having earned the overwhelming respect of college faculties and administrations. And for the students – the outstanding campus leaders of the year – national recognition by the Who’s Who program marks a pinnacle of scholastic achievement.
More Info
Henry Pettus Randall, Jr. founded Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges® in 1934. As an outstanding student at the University of Alabama, Mr. Randall received several offers to join honor societies but could not afford the costly membership fees.
His personal financial struggle inspired him to create an honors program based on achievement rather than financial ability.
Over the last 90 years, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges® has grown from one man’s vision into the premier honors program for universities and colleges across the country. We remain dedicated to the legacy that excellence in the face of adversity must be celebrated without a price tag. We welcome you to this prestigious community of scholars and wish you all the best in future pursuits.
Selections to Who’s Who Among Students are made in the fall season by individual schools. Campus nominating committees, created to nominate the upper-classmen and graduate students eligible for the program, are composed of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body.
This process of nomination succeeds in highlighting the individual and diverse service to community and school. These are the students who enhance the positive image of the American students through their contributions to community and school. Because curricular and extracurricular programs at schools vary greatly, each college is assigned a quota of nominees. This quota is carefully calculated to ensure a well-rounded representation of the student body. All nominations must be endorsed by a college’s faculty or administration.
Who’s Who Among Students honors students from both two-year and four-year universities and colleges as well as graduate and Ph.D programs. Our program is not affiliated with any organization honoring High School, Middle or Elementary school students, Teachers, Deans List or Marquis Co.
